FourSquare is still a relatively young up-and-coming Social Media platform, but there is great opportunity for businesses to use this incentive based marketing to attract attention and encourage repeat visitors through encouraging users to log in with the 'check-in' system. I would recommend business sign up - especially as it is FREE, and put a poster at their Point-Of-Sale (POS) or front door with incentives listed... become the mayor and get a free XYZ!
